GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : devo confessare la piacevole sorpresa nell'ascolto di questo album. Mi aspettavo unicamente musica dance o poco di più. In realtà vi sono brani di grande qualità che esulano del tutto o almeno in parte dalle caratteristiche di quella musica. Certamente non mancano tracce esclusivamente dal suono dance come in "Aerobics / Work It Out" (a3) con strumenti elettronici, una buona chitarra e ritmica sostenuta ed ugualmente in "Aerobics / Push It" (a4) con prominenza di tastiere e batteria elettronica o, infine, in "You're My Tutor" (a1) cantata in Inglese da una voce femminile non accreditata nel disco con accompagnamento di musica dance. Trovo interessante "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" (a5) che combina belle sonorita blueseggianti di un armonica con la musica elettronica dance. Una bella fusione tra rock e musica nera la troviamo nelle due versioni di "Funk - A - Long" Part 1 & 2 (b1, b2). Nella prima troviamo una splendida ed indiavolata chitarra elettrica dai fraseggi distorti e con la batteria in supporto, la seconda è condotta dal sassofono e dalle tastiere su un vivacr tessuto sonoro. La cantante Kathy Brown interpreta con grande eleganza "The First Time We Make Love" (a2) mettendo in grande evidenza le sue indiscutibili qualità vocali soprattutto in considerazione che i suoi generi abituali erano il rhythm & blues, la dance e house music. Qui interpreta una canzone melodica e romantica con passaggi timbrici che ricordano Olivia Newton-John ed in ogni caso con gran classe. Infine "Cat House Theme" (b5): quasi un blues elettrico con chitarra in evidenza ben supportata dalla batteria.

I titoli dei dieci brani possono esser letti guardando il retrocopertina raffigurato nella scansione n° 2.

Notes : I must confess the pleasant amazement by listening to this album. I expected only dance music or a little more. In fact, there are tracks of great quality which fall outside by the characteristics of that music or at least in part. Certainly no shortage of tracks exclusively based on dance sound as in "Aerobics / Work It Out" (a3) with electronic instruments, a good guitar and lively rhythm as well as in "Aerobics / Push It" (a4) with the prominence of keyboards and drum machine or finally, in "You're My Tutor" (a1) sung in English by an uncredited female voice with dance music accompaniment. I find interesting "Feet Do not Fail Me Now" (a5) which combines beautiful bluesy sonorities of a harmonica with electronic dance music. A beautiful fusion between rock and black music is found in the two versions of "Funk - A - Long" Part 1 & 2 (b1, b2). In the first we listen to a beautiful and frenzied electric guitar by the distorted riff with drums in support, while the second one is led by sax and keyboards on an exciting sound texture. The singer Kathy Brown performs with great elegance "The First Time We Make Love" (a2) fully highlighting her unquestionable vocal qualities especially considering that her usual genres were the rhythm & blues, dance and house music. Here she sings a melodic and romantic piece with tonal passages that recall Olivia Newton-John and in each case with great class. Finally "House Cat Theme" (b5) almost an electric blues with guitar in prominence well supported by the drums.
