I have one word: Underrated. I have two hundred and seventy-three words: I cannot fathom how this furious EP and their asserted live performance firestorms all went under the radar of a metal-addicted Europe in 1985. Ambitious, eccentric, positively blistering speed metal leads pay homage to Accept allbeit in a more proggy direction. The aforementioned 'Starfucker' doesn't disappoint, opening up with a barrage of full-throttle 80's speed riffs that, despite sounding traditional, seem ahead of their time. But if you want forward-thinking, look no further than 'Eagle's Kingdom': a silky-smooth hybrid of Killers and Breaker, taking ruthless speed metal chops in an almost extra-terrestrial direction. Yes, I see you Agent Steel, put your hand down. In all honesty, I thought the leads of 'Devil's Race' and '(I am a) Maniac' were very suggestive of Skeptics Apocalypse, as I'm sure the fans still loyal to Agent Steel have already taken note of. This is especially amusing because I'm sure the latter track was intended to be an unsubtle nod to Accept's criminally underrated I'm a Rebel, rather than an inadvertent parallel alongside Agent Steel. 'My Woman'. 'My Woman' is a bluesy power ballad. I was surprised to see the Westfalen EP was under the watchful, oft responsible eye of Roadrunner Records. So who knows. What I do know is, speed metal fans should check out this album.
