Description
"WHEN (ALL) THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN" is a well-known, even ubiquitous number, the bane of dixieland bands across the country. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band of New Orleans, for instance, once had a sign on the bandstand which read: "All requests - Traditional: $1.00. Others: $2.00. 'The Saints' - $5.00." The price for "The Saints" has gone up to $20.00 in recent years!
Anyhow, actual original sacred/gospel versions of "The Saints" are quite scarce on records, but here is one by the PARAMOUNT JUBILEE SINGERS, men and women dressed in their Sunday best, recorded in 1923. Their "Saints" includes lyrics I've never heard anywhere else. They do "THE OLD TIME RELIGION" on the flip side.
This 1923 purple-label "Race" Paramount 12073 is in exceedingly decent V+ condition; a little wear and erosion, but the record essentially is intact.
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
