Background
An interesting but shortlived symphonic/prog rock outfit from the 80's. White Light, from the Santa Rosa/Simi Valley area of California, played their trade somewhere between Yes, Styx and Stencil Forest. Released in 1983, the EP features high pitched vocals, a battery of pomp keyboards and blazing guitar solo for extra measure.
The Songs
'Rock In The Moonlight' is probably their most recognised song; you can view it on YouTube. It cascades for the first segment, and here the vocal of Harry Blackstone III takes over. He does have a shrill tenor, but it suits the style and music. The song surges ahead into part two, with guitar riffs taking over. 'Separate Reality' resurrects the ghost of early 70's Styx. particularly the keyboard work. Piano rolls introduce the 'Illusions', a nice ballad again very Styx oriented. With the last track a gem the soaring title-track 'Forces', which contains the pre-requisite guitar/keyboard interplay. At the end you wonder what would have followed on the next release .
In Summary
Just this one EP was all we would hear from these Californian proggies. However, White Light suffered a major loss the following year, with Harry Blackstone III killed in an accident.
