Description
This is an auction for an early first UK pressing ("black stamp") in gatefold sleeve
with all facsimile inserts of The Who's seminal concert album "Live at Leeds", which
unleashed the band's harder new sound in 1970, paving the way for "Who's Next"
and "Quadraphenia" and helped define the sound of progressive rock for the rest of
the decade.
It has all 12 inserts, and the cover and LP are in fabulous condition.
The first pressing was believed to have been limited to a few hundred copies and is
distinguished by a) the album name stamped in black ink on the front cover; b)
facsimile inserts being printed on different thicknesses of paper for realism c) Mat
numbers A1/B1 and serial 2406 001 on the label; and d) the Marquee poster with
Track Records logo included with the facsimiles, which was later substituted for a
"Live at Leeds" poster. This poster edition was printed on paper which was glossy on the front and rough on the back - I have seen other listings claim that this is the rarest of all, but I can't verify that it isn't just eBay seller hype!
Either way, this is a rare edition in great condition.
Later UK first pressings had the album name stamped in blue, and then red - which
became the chosen colour in perpetuity. There is plenty of information on the web
about the album itself, and about different collectible editions.
