Wild Turkey's "Battle hymn" is an incredible album. Great music and atmosphere all around. This was bass player Glen Cornick's band that he formed after quitting Jethro Tull. Arguably, this might not be on the same level as Jethro Tull's best material (certainly not compared to Ian Anderson's songwriting abilities), but it's still extremely solid stuff. Tweke Lewis was an extraordinarily guitarist, his solos just drip with raw intensity and emotion, particulary on the opener "Butterfly" (apparently a tribute to the late and great Jimi Hendrix). Elsewhere, there are a load of great songs like "Easter psalm", "Sanctuary", "One sole survivor", the title track, and "Gentle rain" which really shine, but listening to the whole album is quite an experience. It's too bad they didn't get much recognition back then, because they really were outstanding musicians and had some cool ideas. More people should check them out, especially fans of early Jethro Tull.
