Description

Contemporary Records Composers series, C 6001, featuring the music of William O. Smith, better known as Bill Smith, former jazz clarinetist with Dave Brubeck. Here he breaks away from the jazz world and shows himself to be a magnificent chamber music composer, with his string quartet, played by the Amati Quartet with André Previn on piano. On the Contemporary label, which specialized in West Coast jazz, this album shows the wonderful fusion of jazz with contemporary chamber music. Not that this music is jazz at all, but it is a great example of the classical aspirations and background of many of the West Coast jazzmen. Really an interesting and marvelous album, this rare copy is in excellent condition and plays nearly flawlessly. The cover has only minor wear with no seam splits or ringwear. A beautiful and rare copy.
