This album was recorded by Paul McCartney andWings, often billed simply as Wings. Wings were an English-American rockband formed in 1971 in London by former Beatles bassist and singer PaulMcCartney, his wife Linda McCartney on keyboards, session drummer DennySeiwell and former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine. Wings were noted fortheir commercial successes, musical eclecticism and frequent personnel changes;going through three lead guitarists and four drummers. However, the core trioof the McCartneys and Laine remained intact throughout the group's existence.

Wings Greatest is a1978 compilation, It was the band's last release through Capitol in theUS. The album is notable as being the first official retrospective release fromPaul McCartney post-Beatles career. The album was compiled after McCartney'sdecision to leave EMI’s American label, Capitol, for a six-year staywith Columbia (United States and Canada only), though he remained with EMIworldwide during his US sabbatical from Capitol.
