Description
THE ORIGINAL MEMPHIS FIVE wax hottish on these fine sides for Perfect in 1927, "WISTFUL AND BLUE" and "WHAT DO I CARE WHAT SOMEBODY SAID?" Best of all, both sides have vocal refrains by lovely ANNETTE HANSHAW.
It's rare enough when there's an actual girl singing refrains on a dance record (I estimate the male-to-female ratio for vocals on late '20s dance records to be something like 50-1) - but when the girl is Annette Hanshaw, you know this is a special dance record indeed.
The Memphis Five, in this instance, is RED NICHOLS (cornet) MIFF MOLE (trombone) GEORGE BOHN (reeds), FRANK SIGNORELLI (piano) and RAY BAUDUC (drums).
This original 1927 brown-wax Perfect 14804 is of differing wear on each side: "Wistful" is a solid V+; "Somebody Said" is, I'm afraid, slightly thrashed - no better than V-minus.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
