Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 21+,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. - THE AEROSOL GREY MACHINE
- ..|/\|...............................................|/\|..
- USA - MERCURY RECORDS - SR61238
- Extremely SCARCE 1969 Original PRESS. For whatever reason, the USA issue was near non existent, one limited production, 'n that was it!
- Here is one of the gotta be "few" WHITE LABEL ADVANCE PRESSINGS.
- THINK TWICE !
By far the rarest - most sought after album by Van der Graaf Generator.
For whatever reason, the Lp was quickly deleted by Mercury Records in the USA
'The Aerosol Grey Machine' was initially planned as the first Peter Hammill solo-record, but was finally released under the group name 'Van Der Graaf Generator'. Singer songwriter Peter Hammill is a poet, who composes music for his poems, supported by a great adventurous backing prog band. Hammill has an expressive vocal range (from lamentations to cries and whispers) and on 'The Aerosol Grey Machine' one can already find the major elements of VDGG's music : Hammills' expressive vocal style and poetry, Banton's classical inspired keyboard playing and Guy Evans' subtle drumming. The first five tracks (four songs) have a similar structure, the instruments enter one after the other (first the guitar, [on 'Afterwards' organ] than the bass, the piano or organ, Evans enters on drums establishes a medium tempo groove and Hammill starts singing , with small variations throughout the track. It is already typical VDGG, but the dynamics of their later records is missing. The most interesting track of the four is 'Into a Game', the song starts the same way as the others, but in the middle there is an instrumental break starting with bass and drums joined by Banton, who delivers a nice keyboard solo and then Hammill joins and sings ad-libitum "into a game.." over the groove, until the track fades. 'Aerosol Grey Machine' is a funny publicity spot followed by a short instrumental 'Black Smoke Yen', where Evans establishes an interesting drum pattern joined by the bass and another piano solo by Banton. Now comes the best part: 'Aquarian' is a fantastic Prog-Pop-Song! It is the only track on the record that follows a classical song structure with verse & chorus. [with the band joining on vocals for the chorus]. It starts with a great groove by Evans heavily phased drums and a pumping bass line joined by Hammill's vocals, a great chorus and a final organ frenzy. 'Necromancer' is a nice stop and go rocker and 'Octopus' a heavy rocker with a ostinato bass line, organ washes and a nice organ solo in the second half, reminding Jon Lord. The Aerosol Grey Machine went under the radar of many collectors...besides being by far their rarest Lp, it is nevertheless a great record. - Afterwards (4:58)

CONDITION: - The cover: rated: near EX (excellent) ...The ULTRA-RARE '69 WHITE PROMO pressing remains HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE. Given a minor bit of wear-only to the authentic 60's psychedelic cover art, minor top seam rub (a very thin area the top edge)...so Gotta be BEST COPY you'll be lucky to find! There are only little signs of prior use visual, very strong overall. There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing
- The vinyl: Rated: M- SUPER CLEAN ...a real-nice pairing with that cover above. Looks shiny clean, plays highly enjoyable. Both White PROMO Mercury Records labels are CLEAN & WHITE.
- Would be more than difficult to find a better example of
- a 1969 pre-release promo
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
