ELKIE BROOKS ‘RICH MAN’S WOMAN’ 1975 WHITE LABEL TEST PRESSING VINYL LP IN ORIGINAL SLEEVE DESIGN

 

Sleeve Condition: A few pinpricks at the leading edge (you have to look hard for them) are the only real blemish in what is otherwise a close to Near Mint sleeve.

 

Record Condition:  As one might expect, pretty flawless and probably unplayed – Near Mint would be a conservative grade!

 

This is an incredibly rare, white label, test pressing.   The Titles are handwritten in pen straight onto the otherwise blank, white label.   Very, very few of these would have been produced originally and the ones that were manufactured were only for A&M personnel.  Rarer by a country mile than the standard, DJ promotional copies, this really is a one-off, opportunity to acquire a unique collector’s item.

 

Rich Man's Woman was originally released in 1975. It was recorded in Los Angeles after Elkie's previous band Vinegar Joe had broken up. Although receiving critical acclaim it brought about no major chart success. It did however bring her to the attention of legendary US writers & producers Jerry Lieber & Mike Stoller who produced her follow-up Two Days Away in 1977.

 

The album contained her version of a song written by Lieber & Stoller with US artists Dino & Sembello. The song was "Pearl's A Singer" which became a chart smash and reminded listeners how strong a voice this lady had. Featuring The Muscle Shoals Horns the album rocketed into the UK charts and the next phase of Elkie's career swung into overdrive.
