Description
Wow - here’s another! A Rare Highly Collectible STEREO version of The Beatles first press (Los Angeles) first edition - Second State (Paste Over) Butcher Cover Yesterday & Today with COA from Heritage Auctions.
The vinyl is in NM condition! The inner sleeve is original and intact. The sleeve is in EX condition (there are some marks that look like masking tape remnants which is a clue someone probably tried to steam peel this at one time but wasn’t successful.
As this is a Los Angeles press, it is well known they used much stronger glue to bond the paste over cover over the Butcher covers that were all supposed to be destroyed! Therefore most Los Angeles “peels” turned out badly and destroyed the sleeve.
Due to the rush to release this record in 1966, the printing plants could not print new covers in time so the solution was to paste a new cover over the original (first state) offending cover of the The Beatles in butcher smocks covered in blood and dismembered doll parts! (Only the Jacksonville plant managed to destroy all their Butcher Covers by burying them near the Chicago River!)
The steam method was pretty successful with Scranton presses and some grew more proficient with steam kettles and chemicals that could loosen the strong glue Los Angeles used so there are some fine LA peels (peels are known as Third State), though considerably rarer than Scranton plant peels.
It appears to me that someone tried and failed a peel on this record but the sleeve is in excellent condition nonetheless!
Also Stereo copies are much rarer than mono copies by 10 to 1!!
Very hard to find a Stereo Second State in this condition!
This is a super steal! If you’re looking for a mono second state at a lower price point let me know as I have a very nice one in my collection that’s not listed.
As a collector myself of over 40 years I’ve owned this record in all states (First, Second, Third) in all versions (mono, stereo). This is a very nice record with conditional rarity on an already very rare record after 59 years!
Fast friendly shipping!
Returns accepted in same condition sent with all original packaging and paperwork intact.
Please save me to be notified of more rarities! I’m always listing “ something new”!
