_____ _____For Riverside, this set mostly features the influential pianist Wynton Kelly in a trio with the rhythm section from Miles Davis sessions, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb. "Kelly Blue" and "Keep It Moving," add Nat Adderley, Bobby Jaspar and Benny Golson to the band for some brilliant variety. Kelly was renowned as an accompanist, but as he shows in this set including three of his originals, and four familiar standards,"Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise" and "Willow Weep for Me." Always rooted in the Blues, Kelly was also a strong bop-based soloist as well. Accompanied by some very mature, yet youthful talent here, one has a fine example of Kelly's timing, phrasing, and touch on the keys. The sessions on this disc were recorded in 1959 -about six months before Kelly's participation in Davis' "Kind Of Blue" project.
