A behemoth of a boxed set, the most over the top item in my record collection (I have a Wendy Carlos CD box set - but that a whole other story...). 4 separate boxes totaling 19 disks, along with a very smart hard-backed 196 page book with full libretto, all held in a gold box sleeve, with a photograph of a brooding Von Karajan on the rear. If there is such a thing as a coffee table edition of an album this is it. In fact this is substantial enough to be formed into a coffee table.
The disks are all immaculate. I have just visually inspected each one to take the matrix numbers (see below). They are virtually un-played and even have the new vinyl smell as they are extracted from neat quality sleeves. Inspection with a glass reveals a super clean surface deeply cut with a sharp groove. I can find no spindle marks on the labels, no scratches. I probably put on more handling marks this evening checking them than they had collected since new!
The boxes are all unmarked. The only blemish I can find is at the spine of volume 4 where there is a slight 1cm long white scuff mark in the gold finish about 1cm from the bottom edge. The bottom of the main sleeve has a long-ish mark in the laminated coating and various other little dentlets - simply due to this being the surface all the weight stands on! The four corners of the opening to the sleeve are just starting to go "hairy".
A really beautiful set - a testament to the cutting engineers craft, analogue audio and the magnificence of Wagners masterpiece of classical music. Something to while away the seven years until your tickets arrive for Beyreauth.
Personal collection is possible - and to be honest I would prefer that simply for the safety of the set. This set weighs a ton so delivery will be £12.00 by Parcelforce and will be very carefully packaged.
