According to popsike.com, this is the first copy of this box set offered on eBay in 5 years -- which I believe qualifies it as rare in the actual sense.
Everything included, from the box itself, to each LP, to the inner sleeves, to the spindle holes -- even the print of the cover art that's part of the set -- is in near mint condition. (In some instances, the blemishes are SO SMALL as to likely warrant a mint condition designation, but I wanted to be forthcoming about the extremely slight imperfections. (For example, the only damage to the box itself are this very small white packing blemishes on the green of Tristan's sweater. I've included a close up copy that shows it, thought it's very difficult to see when simply looking at the album.) I've included a picture of each sleeve for each album, though some are a little blurry, just to give you a sense of the conditions of the rest of the box. I don't have a record player, so I haven't been able to test it, but considering that I can't see a scratch on the LPs, I'm fairly confident that the quality of the early RCA Victor Red Seal Records LPs is still as good as it ever was.
It appears to have been played, but certainly not more than once or twice.
The liner notes state, "This complete recording of Tristan and Isolde was made in Kingsway Hall, London, England in June, 1952, under controlled studio conditions. It is the first and only complete recording of the opera." [emphasis added]
This is a serious gem for any Wagner lover or rare record enthusiast.
