This Minty looking Warner Bros. Music Show LP is a live recording of a great 1979 Talking Heads concert, a pressing that was limited to a mere 600 copies, which goes a long way toward explaining why this is only the second copy we have ever put up on the site -- this record is just not out there!

The sound is pretty good for live music -- clean, clear, and transparent -- but certainly won’t win any awards. There are bootleg versions in circulation, but you can be sure that they aren't going to sound nearly this good.

I don't believe these versions were ever officially released anywhere else, and it's beyond difficult to find this record -- our man Todd here is a Talking Heads fanatic and recalls seeing it just twice (now three times) in the last fifteen years. Anyone who loves this crazy band as much as we do should snap this one right up!

The record comes in the generic red Warner Bros. Music Show jacket, which shows some slight wear and rates 8 out of 10.


We Love The Talking Heads

We're huge fans of late '70s / early '80s art-rock and new wave music, and these guys are obviously some of the best in the biz. I'd be hard pressed to name another act from the era who put out so many good records. More Songs About Buildings And Food, Remain In Light, Fear Of Music, and Little Creatures are all works of genius. '77 is full of good ideas, but it doesn't sound like a fully realized work of art the way the next four albums did.

Throughout the latter half of 1978 and the early months of 1979, Talking Heads continued to criss-cross their way across Europe and the U.S.A., surprising many audiences with the power of their live shows.

Recognizing that on stage the band tapped into an energy source that their records left unminded, Warner Brothers (Sire's parent company) taped a Talking Heads show at the Agora in Cleveland on March 15th 1979. Entitled 'Talking Heads Live On Tour' (Warner Brothers Music Show WBMS 104), the album caught the group on the verge of the sessions for their third album Fear Of Music, and one song, 'Electricity', later appeared on that album as 'Drugs'.

The rest of the live album consisted of songs from the first two studio LP's, charged with an emoional current that belied the often placid sound of the group's records. No more than 600 copies of 'Live On Tour' were pressed up.
