Description: So Much Guitar! marked Wes Montgomery s first recording with pianist Hank Jones (who also had two musical brothers: drummer Elvin and trumpeter Thad Jones). Wes and Hank would coincide on two more recording sessions, first in April 1963 for half of the album Fusion!: Wes Montgomery with Strings, followed by Road Song, in May of 1968. So Much Guitar! was also Wes first recording session with Ron Carter, with whom he would collaborate on three more albums: Tequila (1966, also featuring Ray Barretto), A Day in the Life of Wes Montgomery (1967), and Down Here on the Ground (1968). Wes and Ray Barretto would participate on various recording projects together after So Much Guitar!, ending with the aforementioned Down Here on the Ground. So Much Guitar! contains the only existing collaboration of the guitarist and drummer Lex Humphries. Of course, all further possible collaborations were brutally cut off by Wes sudden and unexpected death due to a heart attack on June 15, 1968, at the age of 45.
