ED1Uk White Gold labels HMV ASD 548 ELGAR. Variations on Enigma & Cockaigne Overture from the Philharmonia under Barbirolli.
pristine 1st press of this in a clean sleeve.
Nothing but fulsome praise for yet another definitive Elgar from Barbirolli, with that outstanding sound commented on also:
Any temptation I felt to say, "Oh, dear! yet another recording of the Enigma" soon disappeared when I began to listen, for this is emphatically not just "another recording". It is an absolutely outstanding performance, captured by the recording people as near to perfection as possible. I have never before heard so much beautiful detail so clearly, something obviously brought about by Barbirolli's care in the first place and by the care of HMV's experts in the second. The bass is particularly strong and nothing that happens of interest down below in the 'cellos and basses is missed. But, indeed, the whole orchestral balance is first rate.
Having given the technical experts their due, I must turn to Barbirolli and the really wonderful playing of the Philharmonia
Orchestra in both works. Performances are, as one expects from Sir John, right from the heart, yet they are always guided by the head.
Clean rear sleeve with no marks, bends or splits, and playing surfaces are Near Mint to both sides.
This record is not warped, labels are clean with few spindle marks. This played Near mint on a high end system, without being cleaned.
This will be cleaned on a wash and vacuum machine unless requested not, given a vpi antistatic inner and placed in a new heavy poly outer. We post in new custom made corrugated cardboard boxes, and this will be sent signed for, insured.
