Brief description of item

This is "WHITE LIGHT" & their album from 1974 titled - "Parable"

Made in Scotland  via SCOTIA in 1974 - FIRST pressing SCO-4791-1Q/2Q matrix. Cat# SCO/LP 4791

SERIOUSLY RARE & ORIGINAL PRIVATE RELEASE HOLY GRAIL - Prog/Psych rock. In a word....Beyond RARE.

These ORIGINAL records are more likely to have been lost forever & there's actually more chance of finding a solid gold bar lying on your street or an ancient Saxon hoard! than finding this!

This album titled "PARABLE" made by the Scottish group "White Light" is comprising of band members : Dougie McRoberts (guitar/vocals) David Murdoch (keyboards/vocals) David McRoberts (bass guitar/vocals) Alex Smith (percussion)

Really rare fuzz rock/blues sound. Featuring some cover versions of John Mayall/George Harrison & THE WHO. Also along with some of the bands own works like "NOW I REALISE"

Completely obscure and ORIGINAL album that kicks the door frame off the word RARE! a lot of people label records as RARE, well this record is beyond that word and more.

What's more is...It does not disappoint! if your a fan of that era when music was free & heavy, where the artists had 100% control over just exactly what they wished, their music to be! then this is a great example of exactly that kind of 70's sound. The actual recording here is a DIY & was recorded in a garage by the band themselves! then produced & tweaked by Peter May & released via the miniscule Scotia records, in a very strictly limited low number. Perhaps 200/300 units at most, maybe less.

Here below is a rundown of the condition of each part :

Condition: Vinyl is in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT minus condition, without warping or ingrained dust. Test played on both sides :

Was EXCELLENT minus...Resulting in background noise between the track changes & some of the quiter parts, the odd isolated light tick here and there. But not to much as to ruin the overall enjoyment. 

Side 1 - "PRODIGAL" is a long track with no split between the different titles, and runs as a what's described on the back cover as a "ROCK OPERA"!

this side plays extremely well, is constantly changing between blues & rock with some extremely raw sounds. I'm happy to say we had NO skips or jumps etc throughout the whole of this performance.

To be very critical on my part, only some slight background noise was present in the inner/outer wax or more lesser quieter played/performed parts.

Overall I grade side 1 as EXCELLENT minus for it's audio. This side represents a heavy blues approach & some freaked out Hammond/fuzz & vocal psych!

Side 2 - and the opening track : "Mighty Big God" plays as EXCELLENT, and with ease all the way.

Next : "Where Did I belong", has a few light ticks and slight background noise present right from the start, up until the main vocals & music start kicking in. This lasts for about 20 seconds of repetitive clicks. Then we are ok! 

This is the most affected part of the record & I don't think it'll clean out any stubborn dust particles to make it better....This has in my opinion been caused by 1970's equipment. I.E. A cheap stylus or heavy counter weighted balance. 

Although It does not (in my opinion) if you can live with less than perfection spoil the listening pleasure. I might be wrong in saying this but it probably won't clean out? to make a better performance... IT just MIGHT using a professional touch or well known cleaner, upgrade just slightly.... I hope it will, but I don't own a cleaner or wish to try this. I'll leave that decision open to any new owner to make their own mind up about. So this second track on side 2 I will grade as VG

Moving on...The next track : "Awaiting On You All" played as EXCELLENT with no noticeable issues to my ears. Nice and smooth. 

The next track from the group is another of their own : "Now I Realise"  in my opinion this is the standout on this side (side 2). Plays as EXCELLENT with some slight background noise present in the change between & couple of small ticks noticeable during play...

Moving on & the last track featured here on side 2 : "In My Fathers House" sounded perfect and played straight through fine. EXCELLENT.

I have checked the record itself under extreme bright white light & this resulted in quite a lot of small scores or hairlines, NO heavy scratched grooves or real point of poor issue to list...Just what you might expect from a record made in 1974 that's been played.

Not to bad at all, but worth mentioning here to be exact & fair. I could grade this and say the whole album is EXCELLENT, but as you can see & read here I'm being as clear as possible. I would also have added sound clips...But don't actually wish to play it again to much.

So yes...This has been played of course, but not "over enjoyed" so to speak!

The cover :  

The cover is in VERY GOOD plus shape. The opening tab at the side had what can be best described as "a slight knick" so, instead of it becoming ripped completely or damaging the cover I have carefully repaired this using some clear tape. You wouldn't know it was there unless scrutinized. I honestly feel this is personally better than leaving it to become a BIGGER issue like a rip or tearing resulting in a part missing. It was not bad, but enough for me to feel taking action.

The original price has faded into the cover laminated front & was written in black marker pen...Thankfully this becomes almost invisible as the original artwork is of similar colour Black/Grey & White. Slight parts of sticker residue are on the left & right side. Best advised "left as is" and not a big problem, hardly visable & should stay as non-removable. You could have a GO! if so desired.

There are also no pre-owned handwritten names anyplace on this cover.

The spine at the side of the cover is intact & without any splitting or any record push! title text is still legible.  The back cover is in really decent shape also with all text legible & the original price of this album in black biro pen was unbelievably only : £1.95!!! note this is not the price now!

Some very slight browning of the card on the back cover only from age, no damp or dirt. So a very acceptable cover graded conservatively as VERY GOOD+

The cover was originally made in a fragile nature & has actually lasted pretty well through the years. I store the record behind the cover & not inside it, all contents stored within a hard PVC plastic cover to avoid bend or damage. I will send this way also. This helps preserve the structure of the main jacket.

The labels :

Both labels are in EXCELLENT shape with SCOTIA records text & MADE IN SCOTLAND at the top. The date 1974 and cat# SCO.LP.4719 to the right of the labels.

All text  within is in silver print onto a blue label. Everything is fully legible and without "rub or fade"

Around the centre you can see only a few light signs of spindle/spider lines, but I counted on one hand for each side a total of three thin (3) or less!

all text is fully 100% legible & all titles or any other relevant info is in excellent shape. No ripping or tearing of the labels, and a strong look for both. No pre-owned handwritten names in ink or biro pen. 

So overall a great collectable part of music & one that'll just never turn up again!

Record will be packed in a tough custom box DEFENDAPACK mailer as shown in the photos below. The mailer has a locking tab. The record will be placed outside its cover and inside a brand new polythene protector between two card stiffeners and sealed at the top with fragile marked masking tape. Items are labelled "handle with care".

Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet. booklet or poster are in perfect condiition. Records marked as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displayes no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has notceably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc

Fair (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor (P) The record will not play properly due to scratched, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing Bad (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler

CD's and CASSETTES As a general rule CD's and Cassettes either play perfectly - inwhich case they are in Mint condition - or they don't, in which case their value is minimal. Cassette tape is liable to deteriorate with age, even if it remains unplayed, so care should be taken when buying old tapes. CD's are difficult to grade visually; they can look perfect but actually be faulty, while in other cases they may appear damaged but still play perfectly. Cassette and CD inlays and booklets should be graded in the same way as record covers and sleeves. In general, the plastic containers for cassettes and CDs can easily be replaces if they are broken or scratched, but card covers and digipaks are subject to the same wear as record sleeves
