Description
Willie Mason & The Kingsmen
Ka La Ma 101 (The soul sound of DC)
WHY / KNOCK ON WOOD
Why is a Northern Soul gem, and also (with it's primitive organ intro and echo laden sound) a true Garage record. Very low key but packs a mean wallop, this one is an awesome dance item. Knock On Wood is a primitive echo filled garage soul version of the Stax classic. Done in a similar tempo to the A side WHY. This is an incredibly rare single, whether it's for it's NORTHERN SOUL value or it's GARAGE importance. It's out of Washington DC. It plays wonderfully, with little surface "nose" This was a LO-FI recording to begin with, being a true garage recording (meaning it was recorded in a primitive studio with probably very little expert engineering. ) The grading for this record, despite PLAYING MUCH BETTER, is G+, with quite a bit of scuffs. The labels (both sides) have writing on them, and a written date (3/22/69) which confirm this as a 60's recording. There is a hairline crack in this record which does not affect it's play, but it IS a crack. I do not typically list records in this low grade but the rarity of this one, coupled with how nice it actually plays, made me decide it was worth listing. An amazing record at a ridiculously low starting price with no reserve. PLEASE NOTE. You may opt for PRIORITY shipping or standard (media or economy) shipping, but I can not guarantee delivery on items not shipped PRIORITY or GLOBAL PRIORITY. To date, I've never had a package lost or damaged using PRIORITY MAIL. If you win, let me know which shipping method you prefer.
