Very rare DJ radio station copy of Wings’ Wings Greatest pressed by AFRTS approximately around 1978. Without any doubt, this pressing is one of the rarest among the Wings albums. Pressed “For Use On Authorized AFRT Outlets Only” this release was strictly prohibited from other use or reproduction by the U.S. government. The AFRTS pressed their own versions of popular LPs for distribution to their affiliate stations around the world, in order to standardize their record libraries. This DJ radio station issue, unlike the commercial release, contains 8 tracks instead of 12. Unique white AFRTS special labels with the DJ timings. You can see the additional numbers inside the parentheses after each track’s timing. They designate the time when the vocals on the track start in order for the DJ playing the record to know when he should stop his monologue in order not to talk over the singing. The additional special DJ timing makes these labels unique and truly one of the kind among all of the Wings issues. Original “For Use On Authorized AFRT outlets only” labels with the US Ministry of Defense logo on the left side and AFRTS logo on the right, in addition to the Stereo catalog number RL 52-8 on both sides. The vinyl comes with an original “Armed Forces Radio & Television Service Property of United States Government” yellow die-cut sleeve. The listing includes an original vintage “Wings Wings Greatest” single sheet DJ radio station insert with the 8 song titles and timings for them.

I grade the vinyl as Excellent Minus. It retains its beautiful factory gloss only having some very light scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels are in Near Mint condition and are very clean without having any spindle marks. The original “Armed Forces Radio & Television Service Property of United States Government” sleeve is in Very Good Plus condition having some light chipping along the mouth at the top but no edge splits. The vinyl plays well throughout, only having some light background noise, which becomes more evident during the quiet passages and in between the songs. Most likely, a major part of it is just static and could get reduced if the record is professionally cleaned with a VPI cleaning machine.
