This LP from Wishbone Ash’s creative peak is hardly ever offered for sale in this condition.

“Very few albums deserve the title perfect: this is one.”

This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine Mint/VG+ condition UK first pressing. The record is in immaculate Mint condition while the cover and inner sleeve are in very good condition for 41 years of age, without any major defects like scratches, tears, creases, stickers, writing, dog ears, stains or the like, although there is some surface wear to the front and back. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1972 not reprints or replacements. The LP is the original UK 1972 stereo LP, which was only played occasionally on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

“This album is sensational and is Wishbone's masterpiece.”

THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS ESSENTIAL ROCK ALBUM EVER OFFERED FOR SALE IN RECENT TIMES

Argus is the third album by the rock band Wishbone Ash. It is the most popular Wishbone Ash album and widely considered their greatest by fans and reviewers. It was named "Album of the Year" in the 1972 year-end issue of Sounds magazine. The album features a blend of progressive rock, folk, and hard rock, and is considered a landmark album in the progression of twin-lead guitar harmonisation later adopted by bands such as Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden. The sound engineer on Argus was Martin Birch, who also worked with Deep Purple and later with Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and other hard rock/heavy metal bands. The bulk of the melodies and lyrics were provided by bassist/lead vocalist Martin Turner, although all members contributed to the song arrangements.
With the success of Argus, the band also became one of the most popular live attractions of the day.

This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this rare piece of rock history in this condition.

“1972's Argus is the prime piece in the Wishbone Ash collection and a must have for any fan of 70s progressive rock.”

This album is sensational and is Wishbone's masterpiece. Over 30 years after its release, it sounds as fresh and exciting as ever. The guitar playing throughout is breath-taking and melodic, Andy Powell and Ted Turner complementing each other and swapping solos and riffs effortlessly whilst Martin Turner contributes some sensational bass lines and Steve Upton's drums are sensitive and inventive. For the first time, they include keyboards, with Jon Tout of Renaissance guesting on organ in Throw Down The Sword. This adds an extra dimension and, subsequently, Graham Maitland (ex Glencoe) would tour with them. Are they prog? Probably, at least on this album; they have some definite prog characteristics but who cares when they're as good as this?
All seven tracks are an aural delight. Their previous albums were brilliant for the most part, but were somewhat flawed by rough edges and some undeveloped ideas. This is expertly constructed and produced. The tracks change between gentle acoustic passages to full blooded rock seamlessly. All seven tracks are highlights and still feature in their live repertoire to this day; it's amazing to see 17 year olds singing along to songs recorded long before they were born. I will refrain from describing each track; the best way to discover this album is to buy it and hear for yourself.
This album was voted best album of 1972 - ahead of Close to the Edge, Thick as a Brick and Foxtrot. Did it deserve this accolade? Without any doubt at all; excellent though those albums are, this is on a higher plane altogether. Very few albums deserve the title perfect: this is one. Essential to any collection.
