Description

A real-rarity for a Beatles collector - WTB Stereo 1st Press Jobete Pub. Now, many sellers on E-Bay throw around the use of the word 'RARITY' like it is confetti! Let me tell you - very few BEATLES records actually qualify as "RARE". But there are one or two exceptions to this rule...and one of the main areas for real rarity is early stereo copies. 'WTB' was 1st released in 1963 and stereo was still very much a niche market at this point. Whilst not as rare as 'PPM' stereo 'WTB' is a really difficult find at 1st press. So, bear in mind with this copy that you are paying a premium for actual rarity...[not fictitious rarity!!].
Matrix 2/2. No 'Sold In The UK..'statement....."Parlophone Co + Recording 1st Pub" statement. Housed in flipback sleeve + Emitex sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (VG/EX) In very nice condition, but it is a 'game of two halves' as we would say in the UK! Side 1 is exhibiting a few marks and a couple are getting feelable. Side 2 much better - a couple of light marks. So, someone has clearly taken a major liking to Side 1 over side 2. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals .....a Vg/Vg+ level of playback for side 1 and mostly Ex for side 2. I wouldn't usually go into this level of detail, but for the fact that this LP is a true rarity. Do not expect too much from side 1 - it varies between VG for some tracks to VG+. Do expect a few crackles and pops in places [e.g. there's a big pop in the opening seconds]. So, half the tracks are enjoyable and acceptable, then others fair better with little to complain at. Side 2 is a clear level above Side 1 - playing mostly Ex. You're going to get a nice clean rendition with only very minor and infrequent interference. So, please consider this copy in the round and weigh up its relative rarity. If you're someone who needs straight Ex all the way through this LP is definitely not for you. If you're someone who can appreciate the rarity factor and live with said aberrations on Side 1 - this could be the copy for you.
Cover (Vg) Looks in nice condition with those very dark half faces still looking iconic as ever. A relatively clean front with some creasing existing mostly over toward the opening. Please note there's the start of a couple of tears at the opening and we have taped the inside of the cover to stop deterioration. The rear is showing a bit of ageing - but is still in not too bad shape. Flipbacks are secure and the only unsightly thing is the surface tear over the Emitex logo in the bottom right. There's a bit of edge wear, but the spine looks fine and the text all still visible. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
