Description
THE BEATLES
These initial -1N matrix 1st pressings were cut extremely loud. This resulted them being withdrawing them from sale by EMI in November 1963 due to customer complaints about jumping. A massive repressing operation was then undertaken using less agressive -3N, -4N, -5N, -6N & -7N recuts. However, none of these later versions captured the raw power & presence of the initial -1N pressing.
This EXCELLENT 1st MONO pressing is on the black & yellow Parlophone label: PMC 1206
Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but have 'Parlophone Co..' rims on both labels
The label publishing credit for 'Money' is 'Jobete Mus. NCB'
The side 2 label also misspells track 3 as 'You Really Gotta Hold On Me'.
The 'KT' tax/price code is visible in the centre of the side 2 label.
Housed in a rare front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed large mono logo cover with the incorrect 'You Really Gotta Hold On Me' spelling on the rear tracklisting.
Complete with an original 'Use Emitex..' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Matrix nos: XEX 447-1N & XEX 448-1N
Stampers: 2/AA & 2/GG
Disc weight: 168g
Condition
Labels: EXCELLENT +
A superb clean & bright set with no spindle trails or any other major signs of wear.
Visual: EXCELLENT +
Both surfaces of this early copy retain all of their 'as new' deep-gloss shine with no significant marks or any scratches visible in strong daylight. Close inspection directly beneath my halogen desk lamp reveals literally just one or two insignificant faint marks from inner-sleeve removal but no other marks or wear whatsoever. There is slight groove-whitening to some areas but both sides of this reassuringly heavy copy lie 100% flat on the turntable with no signs of dishing or warping.
Play: EXCELLENT
This great copy has received a number of extremely careful plays but is without any major deterioration to the sound quality. Slight groovewear is audible in some areas and there is a touch of light background audible on 'Til There Was You' & between tracks. However, there are no clicks, ticks, pops or any other such faults or interference anywhere.
Cover
EXCELLENT
This impressive, clean & early example displays a pristine, unyellowed and undamaged front panel covered in an unscratched and totally undamaged high-gloss laminate which displays no creasing or even any 'thumbnails' anywhere. All corners are clean & sharp and apart from some light rubbing to the rear opening edges, both are clean, straight and undamaged. The front panel is overall clean & white with just a small rub from storage towards the opening edge but certainly no other marking or any writing or missing paper. There is some minor wear to the upper & lower flipbacks but no missing sections or major damage. Both seams and the spine are 100% intact, smooth and in perfect condition.
Inner-sleeve
VERY GOOD +
Clean & crisp with just some light storagewear creasing but no splits, tears or writing.
