Well, if you're after the REAL DEAL on Woodstock - then, in my humble opinion, there really is only one 'go to' place...and that's the UK 1st Red & Plum. I've taken a look at some of the US copies - and I don't like! Atlantic pressings are superb in the UK - in particular the red&plum period. Matrix A1/B1/C1/D1/E2/F1...nearly all the one's [not quite!]. One of the thing that makes this pressing standout is that they were heavy pressed. Proper Atlantic quality. If you wanna hear the crickets chattering at Woodstock - then you need Red&Plum and it needs to be clean. The vinyl comes housed in the original heavy-card E J Day triple-fold gatefold. We also have three original 'plastic bag warning' inner sleeves. Two are dated to summer 1970 [just a couple of months after 1st release]. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl [Ex/Ex-] In lovely condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks per side, a few radial very superficial marks - all fully tested and of no issue. One of the small marks towards the end of side 1 [Disc 1] is semi-feelable and does sound momentarily. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just a couple of deviations per disc. Super audio - playing one of these 1st copies really does reinforce just how good the red & plums were. Gorgeous detailed sound with minimal background. When on song this example sounds absolutely superb. Lovely clean intros and inbetweens and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. You might just detect a touch of light background in just one spot per side [i.e. precious little really]. There is one track affected by one of the small marks mentioned above. Expect roughly 6 ticks midway through 'Take You Higher' [audible in the right channel]. Nothing upfront - fairly minor really. Overall a consistently high standard of playback - over six sides!
Cover (Vg) Ok, so the cover is not up to the standard of the vinyl. It is mostly about the vinyl - for me. But this cover is genuine and correct for 1970 - and of acceptable condition [but no better]. Front and back look good with some ageing, but little surface wear [just one sticker removal mark on the rear]. The interior image across three panels looks superb - no issues. The only issue with this copy is that there's a fair bit of edge wear. Nothing awful - but do expect a lot of wear on BOTH spines. As a result the text on the spine is only partially legible. Thanks to the heavy-card employed rigidity in the cover is still superb.
Inners (Vg+) Bags still present. A bit aged in places. No splits.
