Woodstock
(Cotillion 3-500)
In the 25 years of dealing & collecting records, we've only seen this record TWICE, and one of them was a recent Ebay aucion! This is the FIRST COPY we've EVER owned!
This is one of the RAREST LPs we've EVER offered!
This classic 1970 3 LP set was pressed in the US in STEREO-ONLY for the public. Mono had faded out about 3 years earlier, and by late 1967 any US LP pressed in mono is considered extremely rare! By 1968, MOST of the record labels were also pressing their promotional vinyl in STEREO, as FM stations could broadcast in stereo and most AM stations had the technology to broadcast stereo recording in mono.
However, a FEW companies, most notably Atlantic (parent label of Cotilion) pressed a TINY percentage of their promotional albums in MONO, presumably for the small AM stations that hadn't kept up with technology and still needed MONO recordings for broadcast. We've heard numbers as low as 50 pressed for '70s mono promos, but it's anybodys guess!
Another factor about Mono Woodstock is we have NEVER seen it listed in ANY of the record price guides!
Now... back to the album!
This is a CLEAN copy! Overall condition is VG+ to VG++!
The vinyl is graded VG+ to VG++, depending on which side you look at. There are light scuff lines present under light. NO scratches or ANYTHING that can be felt.
Labels are BRIGHT WHITE and look BEAUTIFUL!
The double gatefold cover is also VG+ to VG++! The major flaw is a corner bend at the bottom left( see picture). While present, it doesn't seriously detract from the classic cover. There is also a 1" split on the back center of the right spine. Again, we don't consider it too major. This cover is better than about 90% of the Woodstock covers we see these days!
The cover also features a rare "d/j copy monaural" sticker and two stickers that read "This is a Documentary Recording of the events at Woodstock. It would be most advisable to screen this record carefully before clearing it for air play". One is located on front and one inside the gatefold (see pictures).
The album features rare performances, MIXED DOWN TO MONO of:
-Jimi Hendrix
-Sly & The Family Stone
-The Who
-Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
-Jefferson Airplane
-Santana
-Canned Heat
-Joe Cocker
-Ten Years After
-The Butterfield Blues Band
-Country Joe & The Fish
-John Sebastian
-Richie Havens
-Joan Baez
-Arlo Guthrie
-Sha Na Na
