morsima-amorsima

l’octuor de paris

Classic 920217 (France)

Greek avant-garde composer Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001) pioneered the use of mathematical models in music composition. “Anaktoria” (beautiful like a palace) is a piece dedicated to the love in any form – sensual, spiritual, logical… Eight musicians, the “Octuor de Paris”, tired of the traditional public concerts, decided to play an unusual music of unusual places, and they asked Xenakis to write a new work for them. Xenakis questioned each of the musicians, examined the possibilities and limits of each of their instruments and wrote “Anaktoria”. “Morsima-Amorsima” for four instruments is calculated by the electronic brain 7090 IMB in Paris. It is one of the first explorations of the machine with a stochastic “programme” on the elaboration and formation. Record is in NEAR MINT+ (appears unplayed) condition & gatefold jacket is NM. Scarce France only issue. Essential recording for anyone interested in electronic, experimental or improvised music.
