While working for The Voice of Peace radio station in Tel Aviv in 1977, this XTC 7” single, “Science Friction”(radio station copy) came into BBC Radio Humberside where, from time to time, I did some freelance work. Virgin Records put it as a double A-side and wrote the release date, 7/10/77 together with the letter ‘A’ in dark blue felt tip on both sides. As far as I’m aware, It didn’t make the playlist and went unplayed. As a result, the record is in mint condition at 46 years old and unplayed.
THE SLEEVE (Read Carefully) The sleeve was part of a university arts project for a colleague and co-presenter at Radio Humberside who now works as an assistant editor for a film production company. She chose to create a facsimile of the withdrawn and extremely rare sleeve about nine years ago as she knew one of the band members and thought it would be a good enough challenge for her university art’s project. Whilst this is not the original sleeve, I think you’d be hard pressed to find a better example anywhere. The attention to detail is unbelievable. It was a one-off project which was part of her university art’s course in 2016. As far as I’m concerned, this is not just a copy of the XTC 7” extremely rare “Science Friction” sleeve. It’s a facsimile of the sleeve and certainly compliments the mint condition copy of this also very rare U.K. pressing XTC 7”single. Make absolutely no mistake, you will more than struggle to find another exact reproduction of the sleeve - it is unmistakably unique and a total one-off. At nine years old, the sleeve is also in excellent condition with no rips or splits - see images.
