on the original ATLANTIC RECORDS 598190 from 1969
Wow - here's a VERY nice edition from the VERY START of this band's storied career! Not only a VERY FIRST PRESSING of this original Atlantic Records release of 1969, but also with the promotion package introducing the new group to the reviewers!
It consists of; a folder that has a promoter's letter (undedicated 'Speakeasy' letterhead), some press reviews cut from newspapers, mostly about their gig supporting Cream, and a photo of the band (1st line-up with Tony Kaye and Peter Banks), then there's a promo photo sheet of the lads in typical 60's Carnaby 'flower power' gear, another insert page of album reviews, and some 'YES' letterhead for the management agency in slightly coloured paper - with a copy of their manager's 'business-card' too.
The LP in question is in SUPERB shape - on the vintage 'Plum and Orange' lable with Atlantic 'fan' logo and the FIRST PRESSING issue!
Matrixes end A-1 / B-1 in the run-out area by the lables.
The music is well crafted, and as a new band they had been well-rehearsed and careful for this, their debut studio outing. There's a naivety to the music, the confidence and complexity which was to grow expediently with each release, is hinted at in these tracks' arrangements - this innocence is much preferable to the way-over-elaboration of 'Topographic Oceans'.
As a recording, this is more than just an 'archive' piece, it's a valuable
and completely worthwhile musical volume that is especially outstanding for the time in the emergence of 'Progressive' rock music - and lovely to play and savour today, where there is a paucity of such imaginative and thoughtful music as this.
For the best of all times in music - this stands as an excellent landmark in music history!
The vinyl is lovely NM-,
the lables grade NEAR MINT (a couple of spindle marks only).
The cover grades VG++ overall - respectable shape with storage-wear evident, and a small number on the rear.
The custom lyric-sheet inner is in here and in TOP shape, as with the promo material package, which is really crisp, and clean (review sheet has been folded)
