PRESSED ON QUALITY MID/HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL WITH A SMOOTH OUTER RIM THE RECORD DELIVERS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING AUDIO REPRODUCTION
THE VINYL HAS THE EARLY ISSUE DARK ORANGE/GREEN ATLANTIC LABELS (as a very, very early issue the orange on the label is darker and more brick red than the later brighter orange colour)

NOTES ON THE CREATION: Close To The Edge may sound like the most carefully conceived of concept albums, but its creation owed more to chance and deft tape editing.
Yes’s method of working up new material at the time involved everyone playing live in the rehearsal studio until the music either ground to a halt or someone made a mistake. The band would then go back a few bars and start again. With the tapes rolling, Eddie Offord or the tape operator would be feverishly taking notes. Thus the title piece was patched together from possibly 30 or 40 edits. According to Rick Wakeman, the take of the closing session had to be retrieved from a dustbin full of tape after Offord, working all-night on the master, had spliced the wrong edit. “When we finally found the right section we were horrified because the sound did not match, there was lots more echo,” Wakeman recalls. “But after a few listens it seemed to work, sort of opened the music out, so we reproduced it live.”
For all the “amateurism and shamateurism” that Brufford, the soon to depart drummer later complained of, Close To The Edge still holds together impressively as a work of sustained creativity and inspired playing.

Today, the title track stands as a landmark prog concept masterpiece which is arguably, unrivaled

LABELS: The labels are CLEAN and BRIGHT and have NO marks/unwanted writing (please see photos) and only a few spindles tightly packed around the centre hole
VINYL Visual: The surfaces are CLEAN and BRIGHT with a DEEP GLOSSY SHEEN. There are a couple of light hairline marks but these have NO audio consequence - the LP plays beautifully throughout
VINYL Audio: The audio is absolutely SENSATIONAL - CRYSTAL CLEAR, DEEP, RICH, VIBRANT SOUND. There are NO scratches, NO sticks or jumps and NO surface noise - in fact the waterfall/birdsong intro to "Close To The Edge' plays just about as quietly as vinyl possibly can, as does the quiet intro to 'And You And I". The album plays BEAUTIFULLY THROUGHOUT to a very high standard with SUPERB AUDIO CLARITY, NO groove-wear and NO distortion and must be very critically graded an EXCELLENT+ for audio - BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN SOUNDING COPY - TREMENDOUS LP
SLEEVE: The original matte TEXTURED gatefold sleeve (with a leather-like finish) is incredibly prone to wear/rubbing and this one is no exception. There is rubbing to the spine, lower portions of the front but mostly on the back. The sleeve is however, GOOD and SOLID with NO structural damage and all spine text is fully legible. VERY GOOD+
INNER SLEEVE: The original first issue inner has some light handling wear but is otherwise in EXCELLENT condition with NO splits to any of the edges (which is incredibly rare for this paper inner). The LP is now housed - and will be posted in - a new inner to prevent any 'knifing' damage to the original during transit
