Description

This is another album from the collection I purchased recently where the original owner looked after his records so carefully and rarely played them. This very early / first pressing is no exception! It plays with stunning quality on both sides with no clicks or pops and no background static either. A full run down of the audio can be seen below and the clarity, depth and power really is of the highest standard. There are some light hairlines and just a touch of faint mottling but this is purely superficial as it has no impact on the audio quality. In respect of the audio it is another FINAL UPGRADE without doubt.
The tri-fold cover is in superb condition with only a little wear on the spine and has retained its original shape and structure perfectly. The lyric inner is in perfect condition.
In my opinion this is one of the very early first press variations. It's not that obvious on Discogs!

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and has no obvious marks or scratches. I can see some faint hairlines of which only 3/4 are a little more obvious but only when you hold the vinyl at a certain angle under a bright light. There is a little mottling also but again this is very faint and clearly has no affect on the superb audio. The Atlantic labels are in superb shape with no marking or spindle wear.
Play Grading
The countdown into 'Going For The One' has only the lightest of static and then the intro plays perfectly. Anderson's opening vocal section is just as strong and clear, the clarity and power of the audio is immense! It continues to play with sublime quality - it's a 'busy' track and yet you can hear each note easily, the audio separation is high end indeed. There is no distortion on the top end and the closing section provides a fine example of just how powerful, dynamic and clean the audio is. Mint all the way.
'Turn Of The Century' is amazing! I've played it twice now and the clarity and warmth of the audio is on another level! From start to finish it plays beautifully with barely any background. There is just one barely audible tick just before the second vocal but even tick is too harsh a word for it! A handful of very quiet statics during the mid instrumental but again totally non-intrusive. Mint- is definitely a fair assessment of the audio. Of course there are so many quiet sections and like I say the clarity is incredible.
The intro on 'Parallels' is 'as new' and the opening vocal plays powerfully with no interference or distortion. Howe's mid solo is superb and the next vocal has no intrusion either. It is easily one of their 'louder' numbers and there is no doubting the quality of the music. If there is any inner groove distortion on the final section it is so so minimal and does not deserve to be downgraded. Mint-

The brief acoustic intro on 'Wonderous Stories' plays with perfect clarity and the opening vocal section also has no background. This classic continues to play with exceptional sonic quality through every vocal and instrumental and I cannot praise it highly enough. You could see where they were going with a more 'accessible' sound and this easily grades as Mint including the fade out.
The piano intro on 'Awaken' is basically perfect with just one minor static and the first verse is flawless. The following instrumental is 'as new' and Howe's first extended solo accompanied with superb work from White plays with impeccable quality, there are no negatives. It proceeds in exactly the same way - tremendous work from Wakeman (as per usual) - and the following quiet section is STUNNING! So very quiet and yet the clarity speaks volumes! There is no background, not even a static tick, and it could not play with any greater precision. The audio is as clean as you like and the church organ sound is magnificent throughout! The next vocal / instrumental passage is very powerful and yet there is very little inner groove distortion. Sounds superb and no interference. The closing section plays with genuine clarity and warmth once more and this 15 minute epic has to grade as Mint- it truly is a stunning version.
The Tri-fold Cover & Lyric Inner
The cover is in lovely condition with only very minimal wear. In fact the only obvious wear is some rubbing on the top corner of the spine and some on the spine edge of the back cover. Aside from that it is stunning. The top and bottom edges have hardly any rubbing and the other corners are very clean with only minimal rubbing. The right hand 'spine' is in superb shape and the opening edge is pristine. The front cover is so clean and still has the price stickers top left and the back cover is in top shape also with only that rubbing you can see by the right edge. The inside panels of the tri-fold are immaculate and overall this is a fine example of this cover. Very close to Near Mint- but perhaps Ex++ is a better grading.
The lyric inner is stunning with no side splits, marking or creasing and very little ringwear.

Postage & Packaging
I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
