Description
From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer a very presentable example of the brilliant debut studio album by YES simply titled "YES", Catalogue Number 588 190. This is an ORIGINAL 1969 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the PLUM & ORANGE ATLANTIC RECORD LABEL, with the 1st ISSUE MacNEILL PRESS LTD. un-laminated gatefold sleeve. Complete with the elusive LYRIC INSERT and the original poly-lined inner sleeve. [The matrix numbers and stampers are 588190 A//1 1 1 1 and 588190 B//1 1 1 0 1 2?].
The sleeve is in VG(+) condition with just light wear and a few creases. There are two small tears near the top spine corner which have been carefully repaired (see close-up photo below). It is otherwise a very presentable example of this notoriously fragile un-laminated sleeve.
The top quality Atlantic record is visually in VG condition, although this visual grading does not do it justice. It’s a nice mid-weight pressing which sits perfectly flat on the turntable. There are just a few light surface marks evident under bright light. These are mostly superficial and do not cause any significant audio problems. The plum & orange labels are unmarked with only a few short spindle traces near the centres. The sound quality of these Atlantic stereo 1st pressings is outstanding - very powerful and vibrant with wonderful tone and very impressive bass. Both sides play excellently throughout with no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted surface sound at all. With the exception of 2 short stylus marks on the last 2 tracks of Side One (which each cause 3 clicks), playback is near faultless. Please don't be put off by my visual grading - the record really does play to a very high standard.
The lyric insert is in unmarked EX condition.
The package comes complete with the correct white poly-lined inner sleeve which has "02 70" date text printed at the bottom.
Overall this is a lovely 1st press copy of Yes' debut album which is fast becoming very difficult to find.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
PACKAGING
LPs are packaged with care and well protected to ensure that they arrive safely in the same condition as they leave me. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
