The album's concept, a two-disc, four-piece work of symphonic length and scope (based on the Shastric scriptures, as found in a footnote within Paramahansa Yogananda's book Autobiography of a Yogi), was their most ambitious to date developing stronger prog/jazz rhythms than before (explored later and in more depth on Relayer).
On release it received notably hostile reviews. Gordon Fletcher in Rolling Stone described it as "psychedelic noodling" and Chris Welch in Melody Maker described it as "Brilliant in patches, but often taking far too long to make its various points, and curiously lacking in warmth or personal expression".
Yes fans still remain divided over whether or not this is one of the group's stronger works. Some claim it's far too excessive and obscure, while others see it as one of the band's masterpieces

Clean, factory-fresh labels - no spindle traces or any signs either record has ever been played

All four vinyl surfaces are unmarked and shine like new

I was tempted to leave this copy unplayed but just because it looks mint does not necessarily mean it sounds mint so I did give it one careful play-check at loud volume.
There is a little natural static (of new vinyl) on the run-ins (an impossibly minor consideration as this will no doubt disappear after a few spins) but there are a couple of brief clicks on the final quiet section of 'The Revealing Science of God' (there is no evidence of these on the vinyl surface at this point, even under my magnifying glass) otherwise, immaculate sound throughout.
Beautiful copy - sounds sensational, and with the original tour programme, a superb set
SLEEVE: MINT-
An exceptional example which has been kept inside a protective plastic sleeve all its life and only given a (-) due to a little natural record impression otherwise, like-new
TOUR PROGRAMME: EXCELLENT
The souvenir programme has a die cut front panel and contains an explanation of the Topographic concept, band photos, info and equipment used on Part One "Close To The Edge" and Part Two "Tales From Topographic Oceans".
It has clearly been handled with some surface creasing but all pages are clean, unmarked, intact and undamaged and these are no dog-eared corners
