Peruvian soprano Yma Sumac has a really stunning powerful voice. In the 1950s, she was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music and became an international success, based on the merits of her extreme vocal range, which was said to be "well over four octaves" and was sometimes claimed to span even five octaves at her peak.
Almost twenty years after teaming up with Les Baxter to produce the legendary 'Voice of the Xtabay', Yma Sumac and Baxter joined forces again to record 'Miracles'. It was an ambitious project to say the least. Here's a bit of what the liner notes say: "Acclaimed for her powerful and unique artistry, Miss Sumac achieved world fame during the Fifties with the use of Mr. Baxter's productions. He has chosen to record Yma in a contemporary setting with a four-piece rock band and modern recording techniques. The results are a stunning showcase for an unparalleled performer.".
Yma Sumac's early recordings are exotica at it's very best, but this superb sounding album 'Miracles' must come under the musical category of funky-psych-prog, the grooves are choc full of great tracks containing some superb lead psych guitar, excellent hammond organ and some great rock drumming and heavy bass guitar. The whole album is musically superb and will definitely not disappoint the psych-prog fan who also likes some funk elements.
With this listing i have provided two complete MP3s. These MP3s are the first and last tracks on the album, everything else in-between is very similar sounding. Please just click the play buttons below to hear these tracks from this excellent prog album.

STEREO VINYL = EX+
The thick stereo vinyl is in superb very clean playing condition and grades EX+. Both sides still have a really excellent original sheen, there are no bad surface marks or scratches at all, the are only a few of the lightest wispy top surface marks that do not affect play, the vinyl still looks close to new and has obviously been barely played. All tracks play and sound excellent throughout with no loud clicks or pops and no annoying loud crackle. This rare album has only ever had a handful of careful plays on a decent turntable so there is no lessoning in the sound quality. This is just a really superb copy that will not disappoint.
PLUM LONDON LABELS = EX
Both labels are in EX clean condition with just a few small light marks.
FRONT LAMINATED COVER = EX+
The front laminated single cover is in EX+ condition. The front lamination is still really glossy and reflective and is in really great condition with no bad creases or lines. The matt back is also in really nice clean condition with no traces of storage wear. The top and bottom edges are in great shape and are free of wear and the spine is straight and strong with all text bold and clear and easy to read. This cover just looks excellent and has no bad defects at all.
