YMA SUMAC

MIRACLES

1972 UK LONDON STEREO SHU 8431

1L - 1L

Here is a very rare original 1972 uk first pressing of this superb funky-psych-prog rock album by Yma Sumac. This album was hated by most of her fans as it was so different to anything else that she had ever recorded, so it sold very poorly and now original uk copies are very hard to find and they very rarely get offered for sale in nice condition. This copy is on offer here is superb, the thick stereo vinyl has no marks and has a brilliant original deep glossy sheen and is in EX+++/NM barely played condition, all tracks play and sound brilliant throughout. The front laminated cover is also in really excellent condition. This is just a superb very clean playing copy that will definitely not disappoint in any way.

If you check my recent feedback then you will see that i have only just sold another nice copy of this album. This uk copy i am now selling is in even better condition and has a slightly different label layout.

Peruvian soprano Yma Sumac has a really stunning powerful voice. In the 1950s, she was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music and became an international success, based on the merits of her extreme vocal range, which was said to be "well over four octaves" and was sometimes claimed to span even five octaves at her peak.

Almost twenty years after teaming up with Les Baxter to produce the legendary 'Voice of the Xtabay', Yma Sumac and Baxter joined forces again to record 'Miracles'. It was an ambitious project to say the least. Here's a bit of what the liner notes say: "Acclaimed for her powerful and unique artistry, Miss Sumac achieved world fame during the Fifties with the use of Mr. Baxter's productions. He has chosen to record Yma in a contemporary setting with a four-piece rock band and modern recording techniques. The results are a stunning showcase for an unparalleled performer.".

Yma Sumac's early recordings are exotica at it's very best, but this superb sounding album 'Miracles' must come under the musical category of funky-psych-prog, the grooves are choc full of great tracks containing some superb lead psych guitar, excellent hammond organ and some great rock drumming and heavy bass guitar.  The whole album is musically superb and will definitely not disappoint the psych-prog fan who also likes some funk elements.

With this listing i have provided two complete MP3s. These MP3s are the first and last tracks on the album, everything else in-between is very similar sounding. Please just click the play buttons below to hear these tracks from this excellent prog album.

STEREO VINYL = NM

The thick stereo vinyl is in superb ultra-clean playing condition and grades NEAR MINT. Both sides still have a really amazing original deep glossy sheen, there are no surface marks or scratches at all, the vinyl looks as good as new and has obviously been barely played at all. All tracks play and sound excellent throughout with no loud clicks or pops and no annoying loud crackle. This rare album has only ever had just a few careful plays on a decent turntable so there is no lessoning in the sound quality. This is just a really brilliant very clean playing copy that will not disappoint.

PLUM LONDON LABELS = EX-

Both labels are in EX- condition, there is a small amount of discolouration near the centre but this has not been caused due to play. I can see just one or two spindle trace on each side, this is a good indication that this rare album has been barely played at all.

FRONT LAMINATED COVER = EX+

The front laminated single cover is in EX+ condition. The front lamination is still really glossy and reflective and is in really great condition with no creases or lines. The matt back is also in really nice condition with just a few very small light traces of storage wear, this really is very minor and is barely even noticeable. The top and bottom edges are in great shape and are free of wear and the spine is straight and strong with all text bold and clear and easy to read. This cover just looks brilliant with no bad defects at all.
