Here is The Yardbird’s final album before disbanding. It is also the ONLY album that features Jimmy Page as the lead guitar player. They had a few singles with Jimmy but this album is his baby. Clapton and Beck far into solo careers at this time. This album was truly avant garde and sounds better today than ever. The title track ‘Little Games’ starts the LP with Page’s guitar style in your face. The next track “Smile On Me’ could be a Zep tune if Plant was singing it. Then comes ‘White Summer’ with Jimmy on 12 string acoustic, a sound he would coin in years to come. The popish 4th track ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor’ is where Page first used a violin bow on an electric guitar, perhaps the first to ever record it. Side 1 ends with the highly psychedelic track ‘Glimpses’. Side 2 begins with ‘Drinking Muddy Water’ recalling the early Yardbirds, true British blues. The must have been high when they decided to do the stupid jug band track ‘Stealin’. I guess it adds humor to the album but kinda spoils the side. The next two tracks have moments that hauntingly show Led Zeppelin being born. Listen closely and see. This is the more valuable Mono coded issue. Strangely, the Little Games recording sessions were done mostly in stereo. The promo issues were re-mixed to mono. The stock mono issues are actually deep groove stereo to make them mono compatable. I understand that some stock mono copies exist, though I never had one come past me. But these mono issues with XSB in the deadwax hold equal value with the mono promos. They are a very rare case where if you engage the mono switch it plays mono yet will play un-panned stereo, just like the un-mastered original tapes. Also, since they are deep-groove, minor surface marks do not manifest as noise as most stereo vinyl disks do. These first pressings will only increase in value. Like a 2nd state Beatles butcher cover, every one peeled to reveal a 3rd state makes 2nd states more valuable. Every XSB ‘Little Games’ Lps that get scratched or damaged…they will never appear again. No re-issues possible.

Epic Records – LN 24313 - 1967

The disk is VERY close to NM. You would need mighty bright light and sharp eyes to see why I rate it a STRONG EX. It plays BEAUTIFULLY. The cover is NM with no wear issues to address

I ship records properly, 'disk out of cover' in a 2 ml poly sleeve and sent in a cardboard LP mailer. Questions are welcomed. Bid with confidence.

VINYL GRADING

M- = a pristine record. Displays NO marks, appears to be unplayed.

NM = a near mint record. May have VERY minor marks that can ONLY be seen in bright light and plays with NO surface noise.

EX = a sweet record. May have only a few micro-sleeve lines or minor superficial marks that do NOT affect play. NM-

VG+ = a well-kept record. May have superficial marks but plays with MINIMAL surface sound ONLY in quiet passages if any at all.

VG = a nice used record. Has visible marks, light scratches and MINOR surface noise only in quiet passages but is still a very good listening experience.

VG- = a well-used record. Has marks, minor scratches, some surface noise, but still plays through with NO skips and is still enjoyable. This grade is only sold by me if the record is a rare collectable.
