Description
There are several undeniable Prog-Rock masterpieces and Yes's 'Close To The Edge' is certainly one of them. Released in the U.S. on the Atlantic Records label (SD-7244/SD-19133) in 1972, it finds the band at their most creative and commercial peak, containing some of their most majestic and beautiful work.
The copy I'm offering sounds absolutely incredible. Though it appears to be a 2nd pressing from 1977, certain details show this to be somewhat of a transitional or "hybrid" version. The labels clearly indicate the catalog number SD-7244, which correspond to the 1st issue. But the address around the label (75 Rockefeller Plaza) and numbers on the back cover and along the spine (SD 19133), corresponds to the 2nd pressing. The vinyl also has a rather hefty weight for a record pressed in 1977. Having heard various pressing over the years (including 1st UK, Japanese, MFSL) I can honestly state that this U.S. pressing ranks with THE VERY BEST.....and one could easily make an argument that this tops them all.
Condition of Gatefold Lp Jacket: Near Mint- .........a beautiful example of this iconic Roger Dean designed cover.....distinctly "textured" (see photos) and lightly coated, the only flaws are a couple of inoffensive nicks to the back cover along the spine.
Condition of Lyric/Inner-Sleeve: Near Mint .....one of the best I've ever seen.
Condition of Record: Near Mint .....superb condition.....beautiful gloss to both sides....the audio is simply tremendous. Even at loud volume the music did not distort and the low end was thick and focused. It doesn't get much better than this on vinyl.
