Description

Artist & Title: Yoko Ono – Approximately Infinite Universe

Rare original MINT 1973 UK FIRST PRESSING Apple label 22-track double vinyl LP complete with Yoko picture labels and original lyric inners in the original gatefold picture sleeve. Overlooked at the time, this double LP tour-de-force is now regarded as one of Yoko's finest works and a must for any serious collection.
The records, which were pressed from the very first mothers, are in ‘as new’ Mint condition and sound as wonderful as ever, while the clean and sharp cover and inner sleeves also fully merit a Near Mint grading. See pics. A very nice collector’s copy of the third, and best, studio album from John Lennon’s better half.
Highly desirable for its first pressing matrices, early stampers and Mint condition vinyl, and increasingly difficult to find in this kind of condition, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

“I recommend this album on the strength of one tune: I Have A Woman Inside My Soul, which is simply one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.”

This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine immaculate MINT 1973 UK first pressing. The records are in mint condition and the cover and inner sleeves are in near-mint/mint condition. All items are free from any major defects. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1973, not reprints or replacements. The LPs are the original 1973 UK stereo LPs, which were only played once or twice on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

“…on the other hand, there is still a fair amount of the kind of vocal acrobatics that Yoko-bashers love to hate, but it's kept to a minimum for the most part. If you've got the cash, get this.”

Approximately Infinite Universe is a double album by Yoko Ono, released in early 1973. It represents a departure from the experimental avant-garde rock of her first two albums towards a more conventional pop/rock sound, while also dabbling in feminist rock. It peaked at No.193 in the United States.
Written and recorded in New York City with Elephant's Memory, Approximately Infinite Universe displayed Yoko Ono finally coming into her own right. Showing off her rock capabilities, she finds the hard spot with such cuts as "Yang Yang" and "I Felt Like Smashing My Face in a Clear Glass Window." But she shows gentle sentiment in cuts such as "Song for John" and the wonderful "Looking Over from My Hotel Window." Although this record, another double on vinyl, could have used some editing, it is well worth delving into.
Mick Jagger dropped into the studio for some sessions. He said he was playing the guitar very loudly with John Lennon. Mick went on to say that Yoko "was really trying to sing properly. She's not screaming, she's really trying to sing."

This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this rare piece of music history in this condition.

“I highly recommend this album for people who think they don't like Ono's music, because Approximately Infinite Universe is a more traditionally musical album. It has a lovely bluesy, generally meditative feel.”

Approximately Infinite Universe has little of the avant-garde screeching and wailing style for which Yoko was known in musical and performance art circles at the time (including on "Some Time in New York City", the album which she recorded just before this one with her partner, John Lennon). What "Approximately Infinite Universe" does showcase is Yoko's delving into more mainstream pop-rock styles, and she handles the transition well. This album is a brilliant record of an artist who was then at the top of her game in the early 1970s.
The backup band that Yoko and John used during that period, the New York-based Elephant's Memory band, kicks ass throughout this album, especially on driving numbers like "Yang Yang", "Kite Song", "What Did I Do!" and "Move On Fast". Yoko's occasional anti-male/pro-feminist rants on the album are guaranteed to both repel and attract listeners, but at least she had the guts to speak her mind and was not afraid to hit where it hurt: On the taunting tune "What a Mess", for example, she sings: "If you keep hammering anti-abortion / we'll tell you no more masturbation for men...So how do you feel about that, brother?" But to balance things out, she does show her more gentle side toward men on songs like "I Want My Love to Rest Tonight" and "Winter Song", as well as on the melancholy "Song For John", featuring very Japanese-sounding piano work.
This album is so good! A Classic Yoko album. She sings with such passion! Everyone must get a copy of this awesome album!
