A truly lovely condition copy of this highly sought after and seldom seen 1971 prog/psych hard rock UK very 1st press gem, on the coveted Nepentha record label, STEREO, 6437005

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side A    6437005 1Y//1 420 with stampers "1 1" and "1" at 11.30 o'clock and 12 o'clock respectively 

Side B   6437005 2Y//1 420 with stampers "1 1" and "1" at 12.30 o'clock and 1 o'clock respectively

The appearance and overall condition of the flat and heavy vinyl is excellent plus (EX+). Both sides have retained an impressive jet black lacquered sheen and in normal daylight come across as being completely unmarked. Under a very bright light, and with close scrutiny, it is just possible to detect just a couple of extremely wispy hairlines on each side of the vinyl, but this is all superficial, certainly non-feelable, and strictly surface only - very trivial in fact. On side 1 there are also x2 1.5cm very light line scuffs at the beginning of track 4 (again, you will have to look hard under a bright light to find them) but these are also purely superficial, non-feelable and do not affect playback at all. Amazing that this 49 year old hard rock vinyl antiquity remains in such impressive condition as this, obviously having been sparingly played.

The labels are excellent plus (EX+). Lovely smooth textured white background with purple text and the blue Nepentha logo and coloiuring all in perfect condition, the only blemishes (too strong a word!) being just a couple of small and very, very faint spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole - another indicator of this LP having been played only sparingly. 

The condition of the non-laminated, matt textured Howards Printers outer gatefold sleeve is very good plus (VG+). All edges remain firm with just some intermittent, light scuff marks on each with the scuffing a little more pronounced towards (and at) the corners. The corners themselves remain nicely defined right angles with jus ta little rubbing on each, and the opening edges also remain firm with no fraying or feathering. There is no cardboard creasing and the inside of the gatefold is in truly excellent, compelling condition. The iconic, wonderful art work, colours, and photos remain in excellent condition : rich, vibrant and still retaining tremendous clarity, and no unwanted writing or doodles either. Truly impressive!

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent plus (EX+). Fantastic tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume and on higher frequencies. No skips, jumps, repeats, sticks or clicks, and negligible background crackle (just the hint of some very, very mild background crackle during a couple of the interludes). Actually I did notice one light click during track 2 on each of side 1 and 2 but close inspection revealed no obvious causes and a light wipe over with a damp cloth resulted in no clicks at all when played again. Excellent stereo sound quality with the whole album making for a great listen. This is vintage, early 70's, under the radar hard rock interspersed with some prog and psych!

Comes with original plain white "BRITISH PATENT No...." and "MADE IN ENGLAND" horizontal text inner sleeve (correctly dated, by the way) with no tears, rips or seam splits - just some mild creasing towards the corners, and remaining fully functional. Note that I always use a new, plain white replacement inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly impressive condition and highly presentable copy of this increasingly sought after 1971 UK rock classic - the whole LP is a great listen, a "must" for any serious vinyl collection and will continue to increase in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
