Originally released in 1998, Hellbilly Deluxe (yes, that is a Dwight Yoakam pun) or its full title - Hellbilly Deluxe: 13 Tales of Cadaverous Cavorting Inside the Spookshow International, marked the debut solo effort from the man who put the Zombie in White Zombie. Before his later foray/rebrand as a horror filmmaker, directing such family favourites as House Of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and the maligned Halloween remakes (the first batch anyway), Rob Zombie was one of the biggest names in mainstream metal. A critical and commercial success, the album reached the top five of the Billboard 200, selling over three million copies in the United States, outselling all of his previous band's four records combined. Working with an array of talent including former Nine Inch Nails alumni Charlie Clouser and Danny Lohner (also of A Perfect Circle) to help craft the project's industrial metal edge, Tommy Lee of Motley Crue even provided drums on both 'Meet the Creeper' and 'The Ballad of Resurrection Joe and Rosa Whore'. Imbued with Zombie's carnivalesque infatuation with horror, the work has since been immortalised as a modern shock rock classic up there with Alice Cooper's Welcome To My Nightmare (only for Generation X) with iconic lead single 'Dragula' even making an appearance on the soundtrack to The Matrix. It doesn't get more 90s than that.
