Super rare ORIGINAL 1968 album from the ZOO, “Presents Chocolate Moose” on the Sunburst label. One of the very FIRST psychedelic albums I ever purchased, and still one of my all-time favorites. Sure, at a bit over 20 minutes, it’s over before you want it to be, but the Zoo waste none of your time in the process. Produced by Ed Cobb, you can hear some of the Standells’ classic snotty punk stylings in the harder-edged stuff like the title track and “Try Me”, which also sound an awful like Bonniwell Music Machine and the Chocolate Watchband respectively. But it’s the trippier, more mindblowing numbers here that really shine, like the floaty West Coast acid psychedelia of “Written on the Wind” or “From a Camel’s Hump”. And I’m convinced that “Have You Been Sleeping?” is one of the decade’s GREATEST undiscovered psychedelic classics, a tour de force of hazy headphone soundscapes that sound like a somnambulist’s travels through the Looking Glass – a perfect sonic encapsulation of the Rorschach-like landscape pictured on the front sleeve. One of the all-time great pure popsike albums – not a moment wasted, because frankly, there’s no time for that. But if you haven’t heard it yet, It’ll quickly become one of your favorites too. Original 1968 pressing on the Sunburst label. Cover’s in VG+ shape with some ringwear, barely noticeable clear tape on the corners and some sticker residue on the upper left front cover. Vinyl looks great and plays EXCELLENT – this was cared for by yours truly for the past 20 years and looked after well.
