Stunning album from US sax genius Zoot Sims, teaming up with stellar British talent in the Ronnie Scott/Jimmy Deuchar Quintet and the Harold McNair Quartet, with Stan Tracey along for the ride.
This blazing live album from 1961 is an electrifying listen. I defy even people who don't think they like jazz to listen to this with open ears and not fall in love with it.
This rare jazz album on Fontana usually costs serious money, but I'm starting this at just £19.99 as it's not in the best condition.
The sleeve has damage all over the show and is best kept in its plastic sleeve - that said you can read the sleeve notes on the back and the great photo of Zoot on the front is clear enough. It grades Poor.
The vinyl has marks, scuffs and scratches aplenty but the deep grooves on this 1961 LP are incrediby forgiving. Yes, there are some tics and pops here and there, most noticeable in quieter sections - most notably on Track 1 Side 2, but it plays FAR better than it should, and much of the music easily grades VG+ on the audio.
The labels are decent and it comes with a plain white inner sleeve.
So, to sum up, not a buy for audiophiles, but definitely one to snap up for jazz fans keen to hear a UK 1st press mono copy without having to remortgage their house. Enjoy the music and upgrade when you can afford it!
