MEWITHOUTYOU - BROTHER, SISTER Experience the definitive creative apex of Philadelphia’s premier indie/post-hardcore experimentalists with the original 2007 debut vinyl pressing of Brother, Sister. Though the album initially hit CD shelves in late 2006 via Tooth & Nail Records, independent boutique label Burnt Toast Vinyl handled the highly anticipated analog translation the following year, choosing opaque white vinyl for the standard initial retail run. Produced by Brad Wood, the album masterfully trades raw, unchecked aggression for a sophisticated, surrealist tapestry of sound. Aaron Weiss’s stream-of-consciousness, spoken-word poetry and existential musings are heavily anchored by naturalistic animal symbolism across all 13 tracks. The record’s sonic spectrum expands beautifully past traditional guitar rock, welcoming guest vocals from Sunny Day Real Estate’s Jeremy Enigk, sweeping harp arrangements by Timbre, and lush orchestral flourishes of flugelhorn, trombone, and upright bass. Complete with a massive, oversized fold-out lyric poster featuring the striking artwork of Vasily Kafanov, this first pressing is an essential cornerstone of the 2000s indie rock landscape. 2007 US release by Burnt Toast Vinyl, catalog # BTV081, barcode #634457189010. First vinyl release, pressed on white vinyl. Sleeve grades VG+. In basically "like new" condition and includes foldout poster insert with lyrics and credits in excellent condition plus original generic inner. Vinyl grades VG+/NM. Plays through crisp and clear with no issues. Extremely difficult to see hairlines/surface marks on white vinyl but the disc looks clean under direct bright light and magnification. At least VG+, possibly NM condition.
