Review This is a brilliant and evocative record and one of Miroslav's finest. There is clearly tremendous empathy between the musicians; the replacement of Kenny Kirkland with John Taylor brought everything into focus, and the music is superb. The compositions above all convey great emotion, a certain sadness perhaps but with great maturity and...acceptance of (not resignation to) life's changes. Virtuosity on a musical instrument is one thing, but the sensitivity and interplay between these musicians completely transcends all of that. IMHO one of the greatest ECM recordings ever, even today. The long opening track (based on a folksong)could be the story of a life, and the versions of Surman's "Tess" and Taylor's "Windfall" may have been equalled but never bettered. Unique and perfectly judged. You must hear this.
