This very rare 2LP set is titled “the transports”.

It is an UK original pressing from 1977 on the Free Reed label.

It comes in a gatefold sleeve with the original 20 page full size book.

The catalogue number is FRRD 021/022.

It won the Folk album of the year in the UK in 1977 when it was released.

The music was composed by the UK folk artist Peter Bellamy and arranged by Dolly Collins and is like something Fairport Convention would produce a la babacombe lee.

It features an amazing list of musicians: Nic Jones, Dave Swarbirck, Peter Bellamy, June Tabor, Mike & Norma Waterson, Martin Winsor, Martin Carthy, Cyril Tawney and Vic Legg.

It is a folk opera based on a true story set in the late 1780's about the barbaric English penal system and the shipment of so called english convicts off to Australia. This opera follows the true tale of a couple of them taking you through the conviction and subsequent sea voyage and their marriage beyond. The full story is detailed on the inside of the back cover.
