Description
Hi,for auction I have an amazing very 1ST pressing 1ST day of release edition of Pink Floyds iconic "Dark side of the moon".This is a very 1ST edition the matrix numbers are A2/B2 WITH THE CAT NO'S SHVL 804.As all of you collectors know there were no A1s/b1s etc to this album,this is as early a copy as you can get.
THE VINYL The vinyl has some light surface marks,also there are extraction marks as this album has been played.There are no feelable scratches or anything like that,the vinyl still looks good visually.The audio on this vinyl is simply amazing,beautiful crisp clear,except on the intro to "c time there is a little background noise most of this cant be heard once the clock symphony begins,a few dust pops at the beginning of "the great gig in the sky"which only lasts a matter of seconds,I would still grade the audio on SIDE 1 as EX+/M-.The audio on side 2 is remarkable,very crisp and clear no clicks,pops,skips just beautiful rich clear sound that you only get on 1ST press vinyls,the audio on side 2 is M-.
THE COVER. The cover is the original dark blue (also known as midnight blue)colour which were only issued with the very first editions,these covers were prone to damage and were quickly withdrawn.To come across a cover in really mint condition is extremely rare,the inks used were also prone to fading and rubbing.The colours on this album are still vibrant and clear.The spine is still firm,there are no splits or tears to be found but there is evidence of a little rubbing,just general ageing really,and a little white flecking in a couple of places.The front cover is in ex condition,a couple of small creases to the left near the spine but these are small and not an eyesore.There is evidence of record impression on the front cover,but is not severe and is mostly in the bottom right corner,again there is not much at all especially when you consider the wear this 1st edition cover was prone to.There is some corner wear due to storage,but there is more to the top left corner,not a lot at the bottom.The back cover is in ex condition,with a little record impression prevalent but not much,there is some impression to the left of the cover,again not much.In the top right hand corner there is text which reads SHVL 804,WITH (IE 06405249) STEREO.The inner gate-fold is in pristine condition,no writing,marks,blemishes,but more important the inner spine is all intact,these very early covers were very prone to splitting,this spine is all intact and solid,inside and out.
THE LABELS.The harvest labels have the solid blue (powdery blue)triangles with the silver typeface dialogue.These were withdrawn very quickly as people were having trouble reading the dialogue.There is written to the left of the triangles "the gramaphone company limited".The labels are unmarked,no writing,or defacing,lovely condition.Unfortunately there are no posters or postcards with this album,but the original black poly lined inner is here and is in ex condition with no seam splits.All in all a cracking and very rare release,these don't come around often.There is no reserve on this album.
