Description
This piano improv was one of a series of limited pressings by Willem Nyland, a student of spiritual teacher George Ivanovich Gurdjieff. Mr. Nyland sold some of them from a single store in NYC for a short time, but most were presumably given to friends and other followers of Gurdjieff. It's unclear how many are still in existence, and this is the first copy I've seen of this one (382). How it came to Lawrence KS is unclear to me. The jacket is taped across the top edge, and there are several inches of new splitting on two areas of the bottom edge. The cover art may have been the work of Nyland's wife Ilona Karasz, whose drawing student Paul Caponigro was also a student of Willem's and contributed the back cover notes. This copy was discovered in the hands of someone who had no interest in its significance, and who had not taken particularly good care of it. It is slightly warped, but playback is not affected by it. It has considerable amounts of light scratches and scuffing, but none of it severe. Sadly, a work of this nature (piano solo) needs a quiet background to be best appreciated, and that is not possible with this copy. It does, however, play through with no skips. I'm committed to forthrightness and honesty about the condition of this item, and don't believe in "as is" sales when inspection prior to payment isn't possible.
