NM Near Mint. Record and cover appear virtually unmarked. Cover still in shrink.VG++ (EX) A hair under near mint may have only a couple of insignificant surface only lines that should cause
only very minimal sound defects. Cover out of shrink otherwise close to perfect
VG+ Used but not abused. Some surface lines. Will have some relatively slight audible imperfections.
Some normal cover wear.
VG… There will be visual imperfections and some audible ones . May be a number of surface only lines or there
might be a small scratch but not one that repeats, Cover will be worn or have some kind of defect.
VG- (G+) .. Usually the lowest rating I will list an LP at. Same as VG but defects are more pronounced. May have more than 1 scratch but still not one that repeats. This record will still be enjoyable but there will almost definitely be background sound. PLEASE NOTE: eBay does not offer "sealed" as a condition option, hence most eBayers list sealed records as "Mint". This can be misleading as Mint implies perfect. A brand new LP will rarely play perfectly.
Aside from factory defects or poor quality vinyl, new records that don't play Minty at first might play darn near Mint with a good cleaning. New records often need to be cleaned because they are statically charged & will attract dust etc. Also new records can be contaminated with dust & grit from the factory or even some release agent from the manufacturing process.
