Description
Hi there! Now, I just bought a VERY nice but small collection of vinyl from a late 70's/early 80's Mod/Punk collector, who really knew his stuff...but not only that, he was one of those guys who liked his records to remain in the SAME condition he bought them in (that may include the odd item that was not perfectly mint when he bought it)...everything was in plastic covers, stored in solid well-structured boxes, the tops of the records did NOT poke up above the box rim so they didn't get flattened/bent by another box being put on top...you get the gist, right. Every item had been LOVED, and treated with respect...we love people like that, right? Anyway, this is from that collection:
ARTIST: the NUMBERS
TITLES:
1. "SUNSET STRIP"
2. "MAGIC CASTLE"
3. "RULES OF LOVE"
FORMAT: …vinyl 7” single…
LABEL: Able .
CATALOGUE #: AB-003 .
PRESSED IN: Australia .
DATE OF RELEASE: 1978 .
ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?: ...Yes, it is..
CONDITION: (cover/record): (MINT / VG++) ...the cover is indeed mint - you will notice that it appears to have small scratches on the front, but the original print of the photo itself that was used for the cover had marks on it, thus every cover was exactly like this...it has no creases, no crinkles or bends, no sticker stains, no blemishes whatsoever...the vinyl is in great nick too...just has a few fine marks...but plays beautifully!!
Only 500 were pressed...see story below...1st and 2nd tracks are truly great punk-pop cuts...3rd tune is equally as good 60's garage-y pop...it's a brilliant record!
A WEE BIT OF HISTORY FOR YOU:
The Riptides formed in 1977 as The Grudge. The band emerged from the Architecture Department of the University of Queensland. In 1978, The Grudge changed names to, firstly, The Neon Steal and then The Numbers. The Numbers were part of the burgeoning Brisbane punk/new wave scene which also gave rise to The Leftovers, The Apartments, The Go-Betweens, The Survivors, Razar, The Humans and The X-Men. In September 1978, The Numbers issued the rare `Sunset Strip' EP (500 copies) on The Go-Betweens' Able label.
In early 1979, Robert Vickers left The Numbers. He travelled to New York where he joined The Colors; in 1983, he joined The Go-Betweens. Mark Callaghan switched to bass, and The Numbers became The Riptides (in order to avoid confusion with a Sydney band also called The Numbers). The band remixed the `Sunset Strip' EP and reissued it in July 1979, credited to The Riptides.

Don’t worry - we pack anything you buy VERY CAREFULLY to make sure it arrives in EXACTLY the condition it left here. More specifically, in the way we'd like to receive parcels ourselves. All vinyl is removed from it's picture cover to avoid any sleeve damage, and both cover and vinyl are sealed in plastic, and then packed within very sturdy thick cardboard...the idea is to ensure you won't be disappointed!
WE MAIL OUT TWICE A WEEK.
