various artists - Festen på Gärdet
Silence SRS-4603 Sweden 1971
Sleeve: Very Good
Vinyl : Excellent
This is a document of a Swedish "Tribal Gatherings" inspired by the Woodstock Festival. Festen på Gärdet was arragend at least two times - in the summers of 1970 and 1971. This double album collects 21 of the groups featured on the 1971 festival, apparently in various states of altered consciousness, causing the musicianship to be rather sloppy at times. Many of the groups only appear on this album for obvious reasons and the highlights are the contributions by the most famous artists such as Fläsket Brinner, Turid, Samla Mammas Manna and Handgjort. Amont the largely unknown artists, Det Europeiska Missnöjets Grunder play some decent acid rock comparable to live recordings by Grateful Dead or Pink Floyd, Charlie & Esdor perform some tasty eastern-infouenced folk with notable use of sitar.
